Saturday Stops - Bonfire

All Aboard the Meme Express – Saturday, October 31, 2009

Today is Halloween, which happens to fall on a Saturday this year. Welcome to the weekend!

It’s time for Saturday Stops at Meme Express. Each Saturday, we offer a few weekend words for that day’s prompt.

As neighborhood trick or treaters put on their costumes and prepare to go door to door, begging Halloween treats, we will be building a big bonfire. You see, we have so many trick or treaters on Halloween each year that it really makes no sense for us to await those doorbell rings.

So we plant ourselves in the yard and hand out Halloween candy to trick or treaters much faster. And we go through about 15 bags of candy each Halloween. This year, we’ll be passing out Kit Kats, M&Ms (plain and peanut), Milk Duds, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Three Musketeers and Whoppers. (Which is YOUR favorite?)

The Meme Express prompt for today is:

bonfire

Why not write your own blog post today – about a bonfire or your own Halloween traditions?

What are you doing this weekend?

Thursday

Thursday Thinking and Inking - Masks

All Aboard the Meme Express – Thursday, October 29, 2009

Halloween is upon us. Trick-or-treaters will soon don costumes and begin parading through our neighborhoods, seeking candy and other sweets.

Here’s a masquerading quotation for Thursday Thinking and Inking at Meme Express.

Virtue has a veil, vice a mask.

Victor Hugo

French novelist

(1802 – 1885)

Each Thursday, we will feature a quotation as inspiration for that day’s prompt.

The Meme Express for today is simple:

mask or masks

Midweek Musical Memories - Trolley

All Aboard the Meme Express – Wednesday, October 28, 2009

Midweek is here. It’s Wednesday, time for Midweek Musical Memories. Each Wednesday, the Meme Express features a hit song from the past, representing a variety of musical eras and genres. Please tune in often for musical memories and prompts.

On this date in 1944, Judy Garland topped the popular music charts in the U.S. with her hit single, “The Trolley Song.” The song appeared in the musical motion picture Meet Me in St. Louis (based on the Broadway show).

Here’s “The Trolley Song,” sung by Judy Garland, from Meet Me in St. Louis:
