Ponce de Leon, Spanish explorer and conquistador, was born on April 8, 1460. Ponce de Leon has been credited with discovering Florida and others points in the New World. According to popular history, Ponce de Leon spent many years hunting for the legendary fountain of youth, which was supposed to be somewhere in Florida.
