The last weekend in January, in much of the world, spells sweater weather. (Of course, most of us don heavy-duty parkas and winter gear on top of our sweaters as well.)
Sweaters are popular this year – particularly cardigan sweaters. Michelle Obama, American First Lady, is often photographed in cardigan sweaters.
In fact, cardigan sweaters have become Mrs. Barack Obama’s trademark fashion must-have, particularly for more casual occasions. Michelle Obama seems to have a cardigan sweater to accompany nearly every style she selects - except, perhaps, for her most formal ensembles (as for White House state dinners and other black-tie occasions).
Of course, a classic children’s television personality also displayed a partiality for cardigan sweaters? Remember Fred Rogers, or Mister Rogers Neighborhood? Mister Rogers nearly never went without a favorite cardigan sweater on his program for young viewers.

What a story. I guess it’s never too late to go back to school and finish that degree.
Harriet Richardson Ames (of Concord, New Hampshire), celebrated her 100th birthday on January 2nd. Three weeks later, Mrs. Ames earned her B.A. in Education from Keene State College, in Keene, New Hampshire. And one day later, on January 23rd, Harriet Richardson Ames passed away.
Apparently, Harriet Richardson Ames had been in hospice care during the last days of her life – and her education. (Here’s the news story about Harriet Richardson Ames, as reported by the Associated Press in Yahoo News, and here is an online obituary for Harriet Richardson Ames.)
We send our sincere sympathies and heart-felt condolences to the family and friends of Harriet Richardson Ames.
Harriet Richardson Ames’ story sort of does away with all of those excuses we might create for skipping school . . . doesn’t it?
Incidentally, Harriet Richardson Ames did earn a two-year teaching degree much earlier in life, and she worked as an educator. Perhaps she never stopped teaching at all, as even her final achievement spoke of the importance of schooling.

Police tracked down an alleged car crook in Polk County, Florida (near Orlando), according to a recent report in the Orlando Sentinel. The man had apparently stolen a 1998 Dodge Durango from a WalMart parking lot. The cops found the man sitting on the couch in a friend’s living room playing a video game.
Guess what video game he was playing:
Grand Theft Auto.
The man had recently been released on bail, having been charged with multiple counts of
Grand Theft Auto.
And the police then charged him with
Grand Theft Auto.
Does anyone see a pattern here?
