Good as Gold

All Aboard the Meme Express – Saturday, January 24, 2009

On January 24, 1856, prospector James W. Marshall (pictured above) found a nugget of gold in Northern California. The historic spot was located at Sutter’s Mill, a sawmill in Coloma, California. Thus began the famous Gold Rush.

Folks have journeyed west to seek their fortunes ever since.

Today’s Meme Express prompt is “good as gold.”

Perhaps this concept will inspire you to create a drawing, a poem, a short story, or a journal entry. Then return here to leave a comment with your link. (Be sure to include a link to the Meme Express. Grab our train graphic from the sidebar for your link, if you want.)

  1. El Santo (The Saint)
Trusted babysitters are worth their weight in gold. This retired racehorse, a gentle bay gelding (from the War Admiral line) surely is. Although this saintly thoroughbred loves to run and jump, he turns gentle for grandparents and little children.

  2. A Glimmer of Grace
Poem - Kyrielles of Blessings' Bells - What do we value most? Wealth and status? Safety and security? Possessions? Reputation? Surely, a glimmer of grace is greater than gold.

  3. The Real Golden Girl - a Rhyming Blog on Our Favorite Dog
Poem for our oversized lapdog. Known as a medium-sized dog, the Golden Retriever is a perennial favorite canine breed, particularly as a family pet. The breed excels at hunting and showing. However, the gentle Golden Retriever's favorite sport is probably pleasing her owner.
