All Aboard the Meme Express – Monday, March 16, 2009

Nathaniel Hawthorne’s classic American novel, The Scarlet Letter, was first published on March 16, 1850. In this story, a young woman (Hester Prynne) was ordered to wear a red “A” at all times, after she was discovered to be an adulteress. Her partner, however, did not bear the same consequences.

Actress Demi Moore starred as Hester Prynne in the 1995 film adaptation of Hawthorne’s novel, The Scarlet Letter.

Today’s Meme Express prompt is:

A

Here are a few optional questions to get you started:

Have you ever read The Scarlet Letter, by Nathaniel Hawthorne?

What did you think of the book?

How would you compare the consequences Hester Prynne faced

to those faced by her partner?

Were you surprised to learn the identity of her partner?

What other concepts begin with the letter A?

What is your favorite letter of the alphabet?

Have you ever received an A (or A plus) on a school paper?

What would you consider a red-letter day?

Perhaps this concept will inspire you to create a drawing, a poem, a short story, or a journal entry. Then return here to leave a comment with your link. (Be sure to include a link to the Meme Express. Grab our train graphic from the sidebar for your link, if you want.)
