Swinging on a Star

All Aboard the Meme Express –Saturday, May 2, 2009

Bing Crosby, classic American crooner, was born on May 2, 1904. One of Bing Crosby’s most popular songs was “Swinging on a Star.” Written by Johnny Burke and Jimmy Van Heusen, the song was part of the 1944 motion picture Going My Way. Bing Crosby won the Academy Award for best actor for that film.

Here’s “Swinging on a Star,” performed by Bing Crosby and the boy’s chorus from Going My Way:

Today’s Meme Express prompt is twofold:

swing

star

If “swing” and “star” leave you speechless, try listening to the song for inspiration. Maybe you will select one of the animals mentioned in the lyrics as prompt for your post today.

Perhaps this concept will inspire you to create a drawing, a poem, a short story, or a journal entry. Then return here to leave a comment with your link. (Be sure to include a link to the Meme Express. Grab our train graphic from the sidebar for your link, if you want.)

  1. Echoing Through Generations
Who's my favorite musician? This classic star of old wrote songs that have endured for generations. Warrior and womanizer, he still possessed a tender heart and penned lyrics to last forever. This poem salutes a fine poet of old, the psalmist David.

  2. Stardust and Snowflakes
Poem - A Winter's Day for Bay and Grey - Perhaps the winter wind may carry a message of her own, at least for those who have ears to hear her. Like the Gypsy Vanners, chilling on the hill, will we take time to listen to her brisk tune?

  3. I love the way prompts and memes bring back old old memories. This one is about, what else(?), stars.
